Here’s just one of the many letters I am receiving from educators about the plans for reopening schools in Ontario and their many concerns about the mandating of face masks on both staff and students.
Despite their efforts and mine, neither teachers’ unions nor the government are responding to these concerns.
In the face of significant institutional shaming towards professionals who would speak out against COVID policies, I applaud these teachers for expressing their convictions and views in these challenging times.
If you agree this is something we must address, contact the Premier, your MPP, School Board Trustee and tell them it is time to talk. Democracy works best when we all use it; phone, email, or visit your elected members.

For a lot of businesses, it hasn't been COVID that devastated or severely hindered their efforts to keep people employed and provide goods and services to their community, but rather the government's continued response to COVID.Read more
We will surely see an increase in respiratory viruses come this fall and winter. This isn't something to be alarmed about, it's simply nature's course with these types of illnesses. However, this year many will claim it's a SECOND wave, instead of the fact that since the beginning of time we have a "flu season" and always will.
In Ontario yesterday we tested 23,000 people who were not sick for COVID and 115 tested positive. There were no reported hospitalizations nor deaths, all our testing did was confirm 115 people tested positive but were not sick. Lets keep things in perspective and not buy into the panic.Read more
As both hospitalizations and deaths decrease rapidly, government restrictions on our lives increase significantly. Mandatory masks came into effect in July, in my area we have had no new cases for weeks, yet back during the peak in March and April we were told that masks wouldn't help and not to use them.
The government is constantly moving the goal posts with COVID, however it's important to keep things in perspective and remember how and why we got where we are today, with a limited democracy, stunted economic activity, and stifling of our rights.Read more
Here are the graphs I posted over the past few days comparing COVID hospitalization rates, recovery rates and deaths by age to a typical flu season. Additionally, with a graph from Ontario Public health showing lab confirmed flu cases from 2013 through 2018 and how the rate of infections coincide with our winter flu season (week 1 in the graph is the first week of January, as the chart begins September and ends in Aug) .
COVID-19 is a respiratory virus like many others, while some people refuse to accept the evidence, it shares many similarities in transmission and symptoms to every other respiratory virus that we face every season. It makes me think of the old adage,If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.
Did lock downs bring the COVID cases down, or did they come down precipitously as in every other and which occur naturally. Read the data and make your own decisions

While Mandatory Face Mask policy is being decided by public poll, without evidence, I thought it is about time I did a public poll myself in the form of a petition.
More and more I am hearing stories of constituents and others around Ontario being denied entry to grocery stores, pharmacies, public transit, and other establishments for being unable to wear a face mask.
Despite our health unit and other regions providing exemptions for those who cannot wear a face mask, and clarifying they do not need to provide proof, many still are facing discrimination.
If you agree, and think we have the right to our privacy and the freedom from harassment and discrimination, sign the petition below.

A Petition to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario – MANDATORY FACE MASKS
WHEREAS public policy mandating face masks from both municipal governments and public health units are based upon public opinion polls;
AND WHEREAS competent medical professionals across specializations agree the mandating of face masks will not prevent the transmission from COVID-19;
AND WHEREAS despite exemptions being provided for medical conditions without proof, many still face harassment and discrimination;
AND WHEREAS many organizations such as the World Health Organization, Center for Disease Control, and peer-reviewed studies
published by New England Journal of Medicine advise against the wearing of masks for healthy people;
AND WHEREAS our opinions have not been considered in these mandatory face mask polls;
WE the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows:
That the Government of Ontario take a firm stance against mandatory face masks, striking down all policies mandating indoor public face mask use, and provide guidance to businesses as to the privacy rights the public has to their medical information.
