Hillier Accepts Offer to Debate Minister on College of Trades

(QUEEN’S PARK) - MPP Randy Hillier, Ontario PC Critic for Labour, challenged the McGuinty Liberals to back down from their implementation of the College of Trades today. In Question Period this morning Hillier cited concerns from the Ontario Construction Employers Coalition, that the College of Trades will advance an ill-advised and dangerous agenda which will stifle job creation in Ontario.

“Minister, when you brought in your College of Trades Bill, we told you it was a bad plan,” said Hillier in Question Period. “The Coalition on Ontario Construction Employers – some of the largest trade associations in Ontario – have come out and said that your College of Trades will raise taxes and kill jobs.”

In response to Hillier’s question regarding the devastating impact the College of Trades will have on the Ontario construction sector, the Minister for Training, Colleges and Universities, Glen Murray, stated that “anytime you want to debate that my dear friend, I will debate that here, anywhere, anytime.”

In response to Minister Murray, Mr. Hillier has accepted the Minister’s offering to debate the obstructive and devastating failures the College of Trades will have on Ontario’s construction sector. The Ottawa chapter of the Ontario Electrical League has graciously offered to host the debate on November 28th.

“The Minister made it quite clear today that he is incredibly proud of his Government’s record and that he is willing to debate me regarding the College of Trades anytime, anywhere,” said Hillier. “I expect that the Minister will stay true to his word and accept the gracious invitation from the OEL to debate
