Amherst Island is a beautiful island in Lake Ontario - and the site of a proposed wind farm development. These inefficient, massively-subsidized wind turbines are being put up without consultation from the residents of Amherst Island.
A Petition to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario
To the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
Whereas, there is significant evidence that the proposed wind turbine project for Amherst Island will have long term negative consequences for the environment, health and prosperity of Islanders;
And Whereas, the Green Energy Act pays exorbitant subsidies that will benefit a few at significant cost to the many, to create power that is unneeded, and that the majority of residents have expressed their opposition to the project;
We, the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows:
That the Liberal government now respect the will of the residents of Amherst Island, and cancel the contract with Algonquin power immediately.

and the robber barons , Algonquin wind power. We will fight to the bitter end.
The furthest thing from ‘ecological.’
Where once were fields of natural beauty, as on Wolfe Island: the natural habitat has been replaced with wind farms: a toxic mix of wire, concrete, steel, and battery acid; set permanently in a once-natural habitat.
I am convinced that some green energy projects are good only for the politicians who approved the project, and the companies who receive the huge amounts of grants to build the projects, as well as the companies who receive the huge amounts of subsidies (from our tax dollars, that can otherwise go to provincial debt reduction or health care!!!) to stay afloat.
Amherst Island is a small island of farms, homes, and is also proudly home to the internationally recognized sanctuary known as Owl Woods. Amherst Island cannot be turned into an industrialplex filled with skyscraper tall wind turbines, and miles of tunnels that will cable the turbines to their on-island substation(s).
I am also appalled at the increase in the “Delivery Charges” from Hydro One as a result of green energy. Hydro One states that it is/will be costing them additional maintenance & upgrade funds (that they do not have in their budget?!?!!) to capture & integrate the power resulting from the various green energy projects into the grid. They are downloading those additional costs to their customers.
Rural Ontario needs to be the squeaky wheel now. The residents of rural Amherst Island need to be the loudest with this issue. Our voices need strong representation in government. Randy Hillier, thank you for being that voice.
