Eliminate the Drive Clean Program

The Drive Clean Program was introduced a decade ago to address one of the leading causes of smog in Ontario at that time; vehicle exhaust. After 10 years, vehicle exhaust is no longer a significant source of pollution. Even the founder of the program says it has run its course. It's time to end this expensive program that has out-run its purpose.

A Petition to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario

WHEREAS the the Auditor General specifically warned the government to delay implementation of the new Drive Clean test to ensure technical testing was completed and problems were resolved;

AND WHEREAS the AG also recommended that due to modern improvements in vehicles and fuels vehicle emissions are no longer a major contributor to smog in Ontario and this program be phased out;

AND WHEREAS  the fail rate for vehicles through this new system has skyrocketed due to the shortcoming of the test itself and not emissions problems with the vehicle, making Drive Clean nothing more than a tax grab for the government;

WE the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows: That the government of Ontario eliminate the Drive Clean Program.

    This is a big burden placed on the lower middle class that cant afford new cars. With all the taxes we get, bills and food on the table its hard just to afford a used car and the Liberal Government is making it harder. Now they are implementing the skilled trades tax which is going to make the cost of repair to your car or renovations to your home more expensive. The average person wont be able to afford to own a car or a home if the Liberals have anything to do with it.

    It’s so ridiculous we have to do this but Renfrew a few miles away does NOT have this program. Pls. Scrap drive clean

    This is obviously now just a cash grab, the recent change to the drive clean system no longer bases the test on actually exhaust emissions and attempts to get money out of more people, failing their vehicles based on non emissions related codes.

    I am a licensed auto mechanic, and have been involved in drive clean since its inception. It has outlived its usefulness, and it is now time for it to be abolished.

    This program is absolutely of no value. (Only a tax grab) Todays automobiles are equipt to perform a much better analysis than the ridiculous ‘drive clean’ program. _ _ _ Another TAX GRAB_ _ _ _ this government has to go. We must elect a government with common sense, responsibility, accountably, and if these procedures are not followed, the government must be immediately dismissed.
