Hillier: "We need to protect municipalites' capacity to pay"

Randy Hillier, MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington, rose in the House today in support of MPP Jim Wilson's "Capacity to Pay Act". Local municipalities have been fiscally hand-strung by arbitration decisions awarding millions of dollars to more than well-compensated public sector workers, who make between 15-30% more than their private sector counterparts. Instead of driving up property taxes on young families, on seniors and on hard-working folks across the Province, we need to reform our arbitration system to realize that places like Smiths Falls have a different capacity to pay than Windsor or Sudbury or Toronto do.
